Eolic energy
In recent years the need for alternative and clean (or possibly zero emission) forms of energy has been the main challenge in the developed world.
Recent high fossil fuel prices and the problem of pollution, has accelerated the research in the direction of alternative energies: solar energy, eolic (or wind) energy, hydrogen, geothermal among the most important ones are partially replacing the traditional carbon based sources.
Wind energy has many advantages, like being extremely cheap, extremely clean, and producing a large amount of energy in the right locations.
An eolic generator uses wind blades and turbines to convert the rotation into energy: the electricity produced can be used straight away or transported in the electrical grid.
Major users of eolic power are Denmark, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Ireland, India, China and the United States. In some of these countries it provides nearly 10% of total electricity production.
In fact wind energy is one of the fastest growing energy sources worldwide. In the US, the power capacity is growing at very high rates as well (around 40-50%) and is estimated to provide around 5% of the EU’s avoiding more the 100 million tons of CO2 and saving 6 billions euros in a year in fuel costs.
Eolic energy can be used also in isolated zones with some small scale wind systems, making it possible with small wind turbines to power farms, houses, boats and to recharge batteries.
We, as individuals, can contribute in the fight against pollution and in energy savings, installing some small eolic generators, thereby getting a cheap electricity source in an ecologic way. After all the sea is made of many small drops…
The potential of this clean and renewable source of energy is immense, so join the community to contribute to a cleaner world.
